Some patients may later become candidates for another treatment.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>3.Advanced-stage liver cancer<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Advanced liver cancer may have invaded important blood vessels or spread beyond the liver. In these situations, surgery may not be possible or may not provide the best treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Treatment may include medicines and other therapies designed to control the cancer, slow its progression, and manage symptoms.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>4.Stage 4 liver cancer<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Stage 4 liver cancer generally means that the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dradityakulkarni.com\/blog\/stage-4-liver-cancer-what-to-expect\/\">cancer has spread outside the liver<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>or has reached distant parts of the body.<\/p>\n<p>At this stage, treatment is usually focused on controlling the disease and maintaining quality of life. The figures also combine liver and intrahepatic bile duct cancers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><strong>What should a patient understand from these numbers?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The biggest difference is seen between localized and metastatic disease. When cancer remains localized, some patients may still be candidates for treatments given with curative intent. Once it has spread to distant organs, treatment is generally more focused on controlling the disease and extending survival.<\/p>\n<p>However, a survival percentage should never be treated as an individual \u201cchance of cure.\u201d Two patients with the same stage can have different outcomes because of tumour size and number, blood-vessel involvement, liver function, overall health, tumour biology, and response to treatment.<\/p>\n<p>This is why I look beyond the stage alone when assessing whether liver cancer can be treated with curative intent. The more important question is whether all visible cancer can be treated effectively while preserving enough healthy liver function.<\/p>\n<p>In simple terms, the data support an important principle: the earlier liver cancer is detected and the more completely it can be treated, the greater the opportunity for long-term survival. I need to know the size and number of tumours, whether major blood vessels are involved, whether the cancer has spread, and how well the liver is functioning.<\/p>\n<p>I also advise patients not to interpret a survival percentage as their personal outcome. These numbers come from large groups of patients and cannot tell us exactly what will happen to one individual.<\/p>\n<p>The more important question is: \u201cCan we completely treat the cancer while preserving enough healthy liver?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If the answer is yes, treatment with curative intent may be possible in selected patients.
